The Leaning Tower of Spaghetti

At the beginning of term 1 the class were challenged to make a spaghetti marshmallow tower.

The rules were:
  • 20 sticks of spaghetti
  • 1 metre of sticky tape
  • 1 metre of string
  • a marshmallow that had to be at the top of the tower; and
  • 30 minutes to do it in.

There was some careful sticking and stacking - spaghetti snaps. One team had to use their tape to stick their spaghetti back together. This team pictured, came second.

This team pictured below, used the join in the desks to wedge their spaghetti tower upright, saving tape and, winning the tallest tower - the leaning tower of spaghetti.

This was a technology challenge - but it also made the students work together in their teams, develop their skills in communicating and participating, and practicing the art of negotiation with each other.
